Hello, I am new to this board and fed up with lupus. And doctors. And medication. There are so many details I’ll try not to go into all of it. I’m on prednisone, plaquenil, cellcept, monthly cytoxin IVs, coumadin, furosemide, metalazone, 4 heart medications, an antidepressant and a clonopin. I can’t remember what else I’m on. The meds are directly and indirectly causing numerous other problems, such as early menopause, diabetes, anemia, reoccuring urinary tract infections, stomach aches, lack of appetite - not to mention depression! The nutrional research I’ve done seems to contradict a lot of my health problems - foods that are good for lupus are bad for my kidneys (which have been affected by the lupus); foods for anemia I can’t have for diabetes, etc. etc. The cytoxin treatments - just came back from the hospital yesterday - completely wipes out my immunity and makes me feel like crap. Oh, and I’ll whine some more - I’m hypoglycemic and because I don’t feel like eating or can’t eat, I feel

even crappier.

I’m wondering if anyone out there has had experience with alternative, nutritional or other therapies? Has anyone done juice fasting? New age healing? I don’t plan on stopping my meds or seeing The Doctors as this could be dangerous. But I’m considering (if I can get my energy up) starting to add things like juicing, more raw vegetables and maybe something like chi qong lessons to get my energy and appetite up. Currently I feel very overwhelmed by it all and am hoping to communicate with others and learn and share some new information.

Thanks for listening.

    • Hi & welcome! To be honest, I've done little research worthy of note since being Dx'ed with SCLE in 2000, due to problems in my family & time constraints. But I did get my hubby to go to a nutritionist when he was Dx'ed with diabetes, and I think his insurance paid for the consult. Maybe your rheumie has some names to share with you?

Sorry--no help at all--but I did want to at least say "hi". Best wishes, Vee
